Circumnavigator Blog is moving

Aarhus 2012

Circumnavigator Blog, www.circumnavigatorblog.com, has moved to a wordpress.org site, or actually it is .dk for choosing Denmark as the host country for my travel society. The new address is www.CIRCUMNAVIGATOR.dk.

.DK for Denmark

But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want visitors and followers from other countries than Denmark. All my blog posts will still be in the best English I can do and after all travelling is a global interest – isn’t it?

The reason for choosing wordpress.org for CIRCUMNAVIGATOR

It was during my recent education in web administration that I chose to swift over to the wordpress.org solution for my travel blog. Mainly because it gives you so much more possibilities to design your own platform and society and then it is also good practice for what I learned during the education. So it was kind of making a new start and moving to a new land – which my adventurous spirit loves 😉

But as a told my teacher during the education, there are also some trade offs with choosing wordpress.org instead of wordpress.com. The wordpress.com is more like a social network and global community with the integrated Follow, Like and Reblog buttons, whereas in wordpress.org you are a land of your own and have to work harder to bring your community to life.

How to follow CIRCUMNAVIGATOR.dk

Of course I hope that my already followers and likers from wordpress.com will continue following and put the new URL http://www.CIRCUMNAVIGATOR.dk in their reading list. Please see photo below on how to do this.

Happy Anniversary Circumnavigator Blog!

Aarhus 2012

20. December 2012: For updates on this post please visit: http://www.circumnavigator.dk/2012/11/08/anniversary-circumnavigator-blog/

I have a confession to make. On the one month anniversary of Circumnavigator Blog, I have to admit that I actually have ulterior motives for creating this travel blog.

It is not that I don’t love to travel and through this media also share my experiences with the audience that wants to listen. But honestly another very important reason for this blog, is a thing a lot of people is struggling with all over the world these days – unemployment.

I am like many others presently jobless and after some months sending application after application without any positive feedback, I looked into myself and thought: “OK what would be the perfect job for me? What would I burn for day and night, if necessary?”

And the answer is: travelling. That is and has always been my number one hobby and I have spent a lot of money on my travels but during my education where I spent 4 months studying in Finland and in many of my past jobs, I have luckily also managed to combine work and travels. As an example see my post about My longest road trip in Germany. So I thought: “Why not work with travelling and tourism full time?” Unfortunately, I have no experience working in the tourism business – well, apart from many years ago when I was a kitchen assistant in a 4 star hotel in London for almost one year.

But I have travelled around the world, I speak and understand a handful of languages and being a former sales and marketing manager who thinks creative, why not combine it all, I thought.

So here it is: the Circumnavigator Blog about my travels which is also created to tell the world that I would love to have a job that can connect my hobby with the fact that I need to earn some money to survive and of course consequently travel some more. Further to this, I have made a Facebook page where I share my blog posts and give advice to other travellers. I try to keep most of my material in English but some of the advices are also in my native tongue, Danish. I also use other social media like Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest to market my blog. I do hope that this will spread the word and possibly end on the computer screen of a potential employer that like what they see and find me interesting for a job in their company.

At this point, I haven’t defined my dream job 100 percent. I also don’t know where in the world it will be situated. But please do not hesitate to contact me, if you can help me closer to a job within the tourism business, or where I can combine work with travelling.

The Queen’s summer house on an autumn day.

Aarhus 2012

20. December 2012: For updates on this post please visit: http://www.circumnavigator.dk/2012/10/08/marselisborg-palace-aarhus/

Well, these days I’m a little low on money, so I decided to be adventurous in my home town. On a half sunny and half rainy autumn sunday I put on a pair of good walking boots and a warm jacket and brought nothing else but my iPhone in the pocket ready to shoot some photos.

The park around H.R.H. Queen Margrethe II summer house in Aarhus, Marselisborg Palace, is open to public when she or the royal family is not residing there. And that for FREE!!!

I very soon had a sense that this is nothing like a normal public park. It was all very personal and I felt honoured to be able to walk around in the Queens garden.

The park is full of fantastic sculptures, many of them being personal presents to the queen and others even created from her husband, H.R.H. Prince Henrik.

The park and garden is set up in different themes. Close to the palace is the kitchen and herb garden. Further down the back is a valley of fruit trees and behind this is a large rose garden (I must go and see next summer when the roses are in full bloom). Another corner of the park is a part of Marselisborg forest with huge trees.

In front of Marselisborg Palace park is Mindeparken, a public park open year round, with view over the bay and the harbour of Aarhus.
